Humour in Metapolitics
The aim of this article is to refute a particular argument presented in the article ‘The Alternative Right – An Autopsy’. Since I do not recommend that you read the article, as it is rather lengthy and tedious, I will summarise the particular point which I will refute: the author complains that memes and short catchphrases are something that is faulty within the Alternative Right.
This could not be further from the truth. In fact, memes are exactly what is needed in the metapolitical war. Do not get me wrong, it is also an absolute necessity to have the back-up of intellectually heavy-hitting resources. But let us not fool ourselves into thinking that this is all we need. We need to be multifaceted in order to reach the largest possible audience. And sometimes less is more. Sometimes it is better to describe exactly what is wrong with the Cultural Marxist narrative with a brief sentence or picture. After all, it is not necessary to call upon the most eloquent article or reasoning to refute the average argument or trend emanating from the political establishment of the West. Let’s take an example: imagine that you have a large army in enemy territory, and an unprotected village lies two miles out of your path. You want to conquer the village. Do you send the whole army, or do you merely send a smaller contingent that is equally capable of taking it?
Let us now briefly analyse why memes such as Pepe the Frog are so successful. I base that on the fact that Donald Trump himself re-tweeted a Pepe version of himself with a link to an episode of You Can’t Stump the Trump. The reason why these memes are so popular is simple: they are hilarious.
To illustrate this point further, take the ‘Dindu Nuffin’ meme which perfectly describes, in two words and in a fun way, a certain type of individual (primarily in the American context). Instead of treating the Black Lives Matter movement as a legitimate intellectual endeavour, it is far more effective (and fun) to point out the pink elephant in the room via a meme. The pink elephant in this scenario is the fact that African-Americans are over-represented in violent crime, and these particular Dindu Nuffins are often criminal thugs (as in Michael Brown, for example).
Another example is the various contradictions one can point out in the Leftist narrative. The most hilarious, in my humble opinion, is the conflicting pandering to the Gay Pride movement alongside simultaneous support for Muslim mass immigration into Western societies.
There are plenty of examples we can use to reinforce this point. I assume, however, that everyone reading this article is already familiar with the logical prowess of the left (or rather the lack thereof). Thus, it is more interesting to discuss tactics: how do we best face such infantile arguments? The best way is, yet again in my humble opinion, to laugh at it (and get others to laugh along with you at their silliness). After all, ask yourself the following; is it even reasonable to take a typical Cultural Marxist argument seriously? I think a more appropriate response is to laugh at it and save the heavy intellectual resources for when they are needed.
My point with this article is not to view everything as a jest but rather to point out the fact that both light-hearted humour and heavier intellectual endeavours are needed. View them as two different instruments, if you will. The former is used to reach a broader audience, the latter is used to reach deeper. We need both. Moreover, to tie in with my example of the army and the village, most regular people neither have the time or the energy to read through a long intellectual elaboration (i.e., sending in the whole army). A picture which you can digest within seconds however (i.e., the smaller contingent) will be more effective and also more time-efficient for such an individual.
